Stereo Compressor/Gate in near mint condition. 2 channel compressor w/ channel link, each channel features input gain, gate threshold, attack, release, ratio, threshold, output gain, and gain reduction meter. Back panel features: Balanced I/O, RCA I/O, Side Chain I/O. Unit has seen low hours of use and it shows. It has excellent calibration channel to channel and is more of a volume ranging compressor as it does some "make up" gain automatically when compressing. Completely cleaned and calibrated.

The 503 is simply the rack mount version of the original 3bx expander design with 2 variations of circuits. 1 version 3bx used all discreet circuit parts and actually can sound a little tube like with some harmonic "thickness" due to the VCA design. This is a very rare version. The later second version used a custom made dbx IC used in most vintage products. Both 3BX are known to sound robust in comparison to modern 3BX XDS which can sound a little forward and slightly bright.

Units vary in retail cost due to condition. Real nice, modified, low use units get more money. The simple fact is this era design compressor is the same as the DBX XT !! But I modify many designs with more R.F.I. suppression and less R.M.S. detector noise getting into the audio V.C.A. (check the internet if not familiar with the abbreviations) Simply put, mods make a slightly cleaner, better accuracy and control of compression of the audio signals. This is done to accommodate today's higher quality signals from microphones and the intense dynamics in modern music.
