Excellent condition in our opinion. All original vintage tubes are still in the machine. Excellent FM calibration and service done at Audio Pro, scope alignment for FM is on target. Scope brightness calibration for intensity is max. Scope visibility is very good and easily read but not bright. Basic service of cleaning all controls and switches done. Tube pins and sockets cleaned as necessary. Capacitor and power supply volts all are on spec. It has truly excellent internal cosmetics. It is odd that tubes have only modest use time. All performs well but scope display is weak but again, totally readable. Channel separation better than 40db THD is . 2% or less. Unit was heat run for a day. The one problem the unit may have is possibly one of the FM vactrols sometimes is a little off spec by 1 or 2 db or so in level but channel balance is stable over long listening periods for certain. There is a S. S. Number scratched into internal chassis top, above Marantz logo almost unnoticeable.

Reel servo PCB 52101740-01 -Some upgrades done (Replaced R109-4. 7 K ohm Resistor R142-22 K ohm) Salvaged from low use unit. #8+ condition (Vinc card for his use)Be aware this board is the most complex to calibrate. It controls motor play tension, speed as well as rewind tensions. Those controls can be a little “interactive”, often requiring a few attempts to make all adjustments properly. So it won’t just work correctly upon simple installation. The board is sensitive to the issue as described. Often the board itself is not bad but the power supply voltage is not running correctly. This is often due to loose or bad soldering or connectors at the main regulator circuit which must be looked into. I have seen In my experience this is a very common problem with the 388 if not addressed. I've been offering consulting help over the phone about how to correctly service and diagnose these and other vintage units. What I explain is very important information that bust be investigated to make the unit more reliable, quieter better operation. I do charge a ½ hour labor. Concerning the servo board, in general it is best to set the trimmers to positions similar to your original board (unfortunately these often have become mis-adjusted during a service attempt). One board has two fewer trimmers in it's design. To complicate matters worse … is the fact that in the manual explaining calibration; I’m convinced has two designated trimmers reversed in the described procedure. The opto sensor in the tension arms do get off spec and can fool you during calibration attempts. So it‘s complicated.
